I landed in recruitment and HR by accident. I thought I'd be a scientist or engineer so I studied physics in my home city of Dublin, not for me. I worked in a bank, not for me. I taught English in Japan, loved it but not forever. I then managed that programme at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland and on and it set me down the path to HR and recruitment. I spent a whirlwind year speaking with students about the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Programme. I complied applications, I managed interviews, organised pre-depature orientation and my last day was seeing them off at the airport. Walking back to my apartment with a giant Hello Kitty balloon one of the departing JETs gave me, I knew this was where I was going to be.
I've since lived and worked in the Australia, Scotland and now France, both as in-house HR business partnering and recruitment and external agency recruitment. I've worked across more than 10 industries and business functions and seen how people strategies can make or break employee experience. I thank all of these different experiences for giving me a broad perspective and ability to get to the bottom of what people want and appreciate all of our unique differences.
At home, my have two monstrous children making me greyer every day, but filling me cynical heart with joy. The dog just makes me grey. I knit and crochet which involves a lot of shouting, counting, dropping stitches and swearing. I constantly mix up the languages I'm learning; Irish, French and Japanese. I am the Chairperson of the Northeast England JET Alumni Association, where we give an outlet for former JET participants to keep the ties with the place and culture we fell in love with.
I love a natter, so reach out if you're wanting to discuss talent, recruitment, people management, employer branding, crochet, true crime podcasts... anything really!
